Why is Sleep so Important?

Sleep is an essential part of a person's overall health and well-being. Unfortunately, over half of all American adults do not benefit from regular, high-quality sleep. Sleep helps repair the body and also supports both immune and endocrine functions. Poor sleep quality and sleep deficits have been linked to obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. Sleep quality also affects daytime drowsiness and daytime performance.

Sleep Quantity and Quality

The two factors that most influence daytime performance include sleep quantity (how many hours you sleep) and sleep quality (how well you sleep). Simply increasing the amount of hours you sleep may not be the best approach. Sleep quality is associated with less daytime sleepiness, greater well-being, better psychological functioning and an overall improvement in daytime performance.

What is "Good Quality" Sleep?

During sleep, while our bodies rest and recharge, we cycle between two main types of sleep; rapid eye movement (REM) and non-rapid eye movement (Non-REM). We cycle between these two types of sleep in a very controlled way. Healthy sleep is characterized by how well we cycle through each REM and Non-REM cycle. This is knows as "sleep architecture." Individuals with poor sleep architecture often feel daytime fatigue because they are unable to reach the deepest stage of Non-REM sleep.

What is Glysom?

Glysom is made from a specific amino acid called glycine. Like many amino acids, glycine is produced naturally in the body and can be found in many of the proteins we eat, such as fish, meat and beans. For those with occasional sleeplessness, Glysom has been shown, through several clinical studies, to help improve sleep quality. Glysom can lead to a sounder, more satisfying sleep without any side-effects or morning drowsiness.

How does it work?

Glysom helps to induce sleep by resetting the body's "internal clock." This happens, thanks to a complex process of cellular activity, that signals the body to relax and prepare for a more satisfying and restful sleep. Sounder sleep can mean an improvement in overall performance and less daytime drowsiness. There is no morning drowsiness associated with Glysom, so it is a great clinical option for those with sleep issues.
